Hi all. I never did post any pictures of my fifth guitar and you seemed to like Lucas so....

The fifth guitar I made was for my younger son. Here are the specs:

Model: Cutaway Dreadnaught
Top: Engelmann Spruce
Back/Sides: Macassar Ebony
Binding: Black Fiber (I won't use this stuff again)
Purfling/Rosette: Red Abalone
Fret Board Inlay by Luthier Supply (Andy DePaule)
Finish: KTM-9 Waterbase Lacquer

There are a couple of things you may find interesting about this guitar. The first is the inlay on the fret board which is my son's head done in MOP. It was his idea. He took a photograph of himself and cranked up the contrast until it was essentially black and white with no gray scale. We sent that off to Andy DePaule and they were able to trace drawings off the photo to make the outline to cut the MOP. The second interesting thing you can't see. I was having trouble bending the sides and cracks were developing. I saved them by lining the sides with .75 mm 3 ply aircraft plywood. Worked great and total side thickness came out at about 2.5 mm. Lined, they felt very strong and rigid. Here are the pictures:









Now here's some video of Lucas playing this guitar. My apologies for the video quality, all I have been using for these is my little Canon digital camera.



The next two videos are of Lucas playing "Come Together". I know that's the same tune, but he never plays it quite the same way twice. Besides, I like it. I was in a bistro last summer where Lucas played this on an electric guitar. At one point, he looped the "shhhoooom boom boom boom" part and went crazy on top. Up to that point the crowd was chatty. Then they went quiet. Then they cheered. Sorry it's in two parts, again due to the limitations of my camera.





One more tidbit about Lucas. Last year he entered the Montreal Grand Prix. He came in second in the Jazz Category and second in the Acoustic Category. The first time anyone has ever placed in more than one category. Then to top it off, he won the Peoples Choice Award.

the guitar is outstanding and beautiful. I love the sound also.

I hope that Lucas continues on with his career in music. It is unusual to find someone that is that young that has such a true talent for an instrument.

Most interesting guitar. I like it. Your solution to the cracking was creative. You know what they say about good craftsmen, they make mistakes too, but they recover from them.
