I have an opportunity to put a couple of my guitars on the wall at a brand new rock club... (not the Hard Rock Cafe but similar). The guitars will be mounted out-of-reach, but they still need to be fastened down... just in case.
How can I secure them without deck screws? I appreciate any ideas... Thanks.

I've only built one guitar so far, but finally here's a topic I can offer experienced advice in.

Bars.

Having spent some time professionally and recreationally in a bar or two, I wouldn't put anything in a bar you don't mind giving away. If it is tied down well, the guitar will be damaged when they remove it. If it is not secured, it will be damaged shortly after they remove it.

If it were me, I'd try to get insurance and tie it to the stand with some monofilament to stop the careless jostling from knocking it down.

Now I'm just making stuff up, but you might think about how they're displaying it. I bet some of those bright lights in a display case can do remarkably frustrating things to a nice instrument.

What are the chances the guitars have slotted headstocks?

Could you run something through the slot to secure the neck and top up and put the bottom or lower bout on some sort of ledge?

Just a thought, especially in looking at your avitar.

I have an idea for you:

If it is going to be mounted on a wall without any means of protecting it, try using bicycle hangers that screw into the wall. You should be able to find the studs in the wall with the screw end of the hanger. For the headstock or neck end, just make a wooden mount, lined with felt and either screw or glue the hanger to the wall. you can make that hanger out of wood and use screws to permanently attach the guitar to it with a "bar" that screws over the fingerboard and into each side of the holder.

the type of lower bout hanger I am talking about looks similar to this and can be found at most hardware stores in different styles.

Try String Swing.
They hold your guitar by the headstock.
Gravity does the rest.
Safety wire the tuners and the strap button with wire to the wall or a backer board.

I'm not too worried about theft and damage... they will be very well insured... I can always make another one... I'd be more worried about the vintage guitars they will be hanging there.

Just a personal thing but I would not just offer them to display with out copensation unless you can without a hick-up absorb the loss if something happens. I will tell you where my point of view comes from. Several years ago a good friend of mine that built hand crafted and hand tooled saddles was approached by a feed store near Denton for a display. This feed store had a finders arrangement with this friend and it had worked well for several years. So my friend agreed verbally to display His personal saddle and verbally stipulated that this saddle not be for sale without prior agreement and was the property of my friend and was on loan not to be considered inventory. Well the saddle was on display for about a year with no issue when the owner of the feed store died in a car wreck and his adult children took over the business. Not being good business people they broke the business in less that a year and allowed the bank to foreclose on the business and the property. despite the new owner telling the attorneys that the saddle was not inventory without documentation to fact the banks seized it and everything else and auctioned it off. Well after some expensive legal work my friend was able to reclaim the saddle.

my point is to weight your liability well as you never know how fast a business can go under.

Thanks, Michael... you make a very good point, I think having something in writing is a very good idea. Also, I like to think my guitars are bullet-proof ... I may just find out if they really are.
