... but my guitar is! well, not quite yet. i havent actually glued on the tone bars yet, but i notched the bridge plate out on the treble side where the brace will go. im glad i was actually able to laugh about this because it is pretty funny and im not too far in that it will be too difficult to fix. what a clown i am (hey, a clown would be a great emoticon!). so should i:

a) try and pry off the bridge plate (mad rose) with an iron?

b) just notch the other side and not worry about the notch on the wrong side?

c) something better than either of the above?

feel free to laugh at me along with your advice.

Heath - Nothing that many others have done and will do in the future! What kind of glue? HHG or Titebond will come loose with heat and a thin kitchen spatula worked carefully into the joint. A hair dryer or clothes iron may be good starting points for heat. Just be sure there is no water in the iron!

Heat up the joint and work the knife or spatula in and work down the brace with the heat and spatula.

be carefull with the heat you also have a top joint under that bridge plate ... Jody

I'm not an expert, but I have read that there is no structural difference between the bracing for a right handed and left handed guitar. So you could just make all the bracing "left-handed" and still string up the guitar for a right handed player. As long as the bridge and pick guard are oriented the way you want, there should be no problem.

I'm not quite sure I understand the problem. I usually bevel the bridge plate a little for the upper tone bar. Looks OK to me except that the X brace height seems a little low.

perhaps i did a bad job of explaining it. my problem is that the tone bars originate from the treble side lower leg of the x brace and extend to the bass side. i believe they are supposed to extend from the bass side to the treble side for a right handed guitar. does it not matter enough to change it?

x brace height is .610 " and .700 with the cap on.

Tone bars on the treble side is correct. That's what I do and what is on all the plans and guitars I've seen. You wouldn't perchance have the Scott Antes plans would you? I think he shows the projection from the top (with the braces as dotted lines) which makes it look like they originate from the bass side and it's confusing. I did a parlor with his plans and put it on the wrong side because of that. Good news is it sounded fine anyway.

I'm not at all competent enopugh to give answer to this but i know a couple of very good left handed players who use 'normal' guitars and just restring them, so i'm guessing it doesn't really make a lot of difference.

terence, you are totally right! i was looking at the scott antes plans and it totally cornfused me. boy do i feel sheepish. well, the good news is i dont have to change anything. the pick guard on the antes plans are drawn as a hidden line and i did not notice that. i was thinking that the plans were drawn as if you were looking down through a clear top. that was an easy mistake to correct. thanks.
