Steve Courtright and I were talking earlier this week and agreed that another Chicagoland area gathering was overdue. It’s been over a year now since we last got together and I’m sure a lot of you at the last gathering all have new instruments ready for prime time. So please join us if you live in the Chicagoland area or even further out if you are up for the drive. Bring your new work, work in progress, new jigs, new zoot - whatever you want. We are going to fire up the grill and BBQ some chicken and polish sausages and ice down some Leinenkugals and plant ourselves on the back patio for an afternoon of eating, guitar talk and picking.

I’d also like to throw a bit of technical discussion into the afternoon’s agenda. I’d like to try a bolt-down fretboard extension on my current build and would really be interested in seeing an example from someone and talk about the jigs required, details, dimensions, etc. So if you use this type of attachment detail, please come and educate us. In return, I can give a quick tutorial on how I do wood tile rosettes if anyone is interested.

The date for the gathering will be June 28 from 2:00 until the cows come home. I’m hosting the event and I live in Naperville which is about 35 miles due west of downtown Chicago. If you plan on attending please reply to this thread so that Steve and I can get a head count and I’ll PM you with my address.

Thanks for volunteering your place for the gathering, Doug. I like your idea about doing some technical show and tell. I am looking forward to the gathering very much. Cheers!

Hey, that might be fun and I would consider going if someone else from the north wanted to car pool with me. I don't much like the idea of driving my van all by my lonesome!

I would offer to pick you up near I-94 and Route 49 (Chesterton, IN) if you're interested.

An open invitation even for semi-lurkers like myself?
It would be so cool to meet guys who actually know how to build guitars. I could bring a couple of mine along and you can tell me if they're any good.
I'll even offer to help out if you need it as I'm only 5 miles north of Naperville.

Steve

Of course you are welcome, Steve. Most of us are beginners/lurkers, I think. Looking forward to meeting you.

Dang. :( I’m going to be in Plainfield In. on the 28th (my birthday and the wifes class reunion) and then Homers Glenn Ill on the 29th or the 30th. Then on to Marquette Michigan for July 4th. Sure would like to meet some members of the forum along the way.

I was wondering if a Chicago area event ever took place. I am about 45 minutes away - I am planning to be there - send me the contact info.

Thanks!

Hello.

I just joined and am in Plainfield. I was hoping to find some guys close by. I have to check my schedule as I play most weekends. I hope to make it! Please send me some contact info. I would even be willing to get together on the side of this if your interested in a beer and some conversation.

Joe

I can probably make it this time. What should I bring?

My shop guy Charlie might come too.
