I posted the following question in the "Bridge Plate Thickness" Thread, but It's been quiet lately so...

...Can I use walnut off cuts for a bridge plate with the grain running the length (left to right once installed), or are harder woods better such as Rosewood and Maple? Thanks.

I believe a harder wood such as rosewood or maple is more appropriate. Split resistance is also key.

Walnut is a bit soft for this purpose. If you use maple, make sure it's sugar maple, also called hard maple.
