I have a quick, random question. On the 6x48" belt sanders, what is the typical diameter of the rollers that the belt travels?

I have an old Craftsman 6 X 48 and the rollers are 2 15/16 inchs. at the edges.

The old Craftsman sanders are usually very low profile compared to average. I measured my Powermatic drums at 4_3/8", which I think is closer to what you'll usually find. My old Jet had a slightly smaller idler drum, and the drive drum was probably closer to 5".

Thanks, David. I was able to get a bit of hands on time with a few Powermatics and Jets today, and they're right in that area, too. I wound up making an unexpected trip to the local woodworking store.
