Has anyone out there had experience repairing dings in a water-base finish? I put some really choice ones (a couple of the dings depressed the wood) in the top of my archtop while trying to remove the neck with the Stew Mac neck removal jig. If it makes a difference, I used the Colortone brush-on product from Stew Mac.

Kevin, you might try the Target website (who I believe make that product for Stewmac). They have a forum where you might find guidance or ask them directly...lots of knowledgeable folks.

I've been using waterbase for 12 years and it's very easy to touch up.
I spray mine but your brush on is probably better for using to touch up.
Because it has a longer drying time and will flow into dents and level better.

First i sand with 1500-or 2000 grit lightly -I glue the paper to a small wood block with cork glued to it-just rough up as small an area as possible-then i use a artist (small) brush to drop fill the ding-you may need to do it a few times to get it level with the surrounding area!
Let it set for a week-it will shrink-then I wrap 1500 around a small piece of wood(5mm wide by 50mm long ) and level the filled area.
Then just buff it to a gloss.
If you dented the wood-you'll have to figure out if it's broken grain(not raisable)or just compression!

if you can match the new finish color to the old exactly then you can sand through the finish and raise the dent with some hot water -BUT apply with a artist brush and drop it in the dent so as not the mess up the surrounding finish.
Let the area dry and refinish-you may NOT get the area back to full height but you can fill it with extra finish -let dry & level.
