I was looking at the plans for an L-00 by Char. The scale length on this guitar is listed as 24 25/32" (24.781"). In cruising the LMI and SM catalogs, I noticed that the closest options they have available is LMI's 24.625" and SM's 24.562". Has anyone done a guitar of this size and if so, which SL would be the best to go with? I am thinking about the LMI one since it is closer to the original, and someone out there may do one that is dead on the 24.781" but I haven't found it yet. I am thinking that 24.9 is a popular option as well, but I was just looking for some guidance on which way to go before I go an start moving the bridgeplate location around on a SWAG (sophisticated wild #%sed guess).

if you're gonna get a pre-made one look here:

http://allenguitar.com/fretbd_pre-slot.htm

about a third of the way down there is a gibson scale. It's very close to what you want. Pre-slotted and 12" radius.

Thanks, John. That's close enough to what I am looking for!

Another option is to get the 35" scale FB and use the 6th fret as your nut, you get a 24.749 scale.

Thanks, Todd.

I re-measured the plans, first trying to verify that they are actually to scale. The actual measured length from the nut to #12 is 12 25/64". In measuring that length on the plans from #12, I had to add .15" to the length in order to reach the centerline of the saddle at its midpoint between D and G strings, so it appears to me that both measurements confirm that the listed SL is the actual, noncompensated SL. Does that sound correct? If so, I assume John's suggestion would be the way to go.

I probably will someday begin cutting my own slots and radiusing because it does open up a lot of options for different fingerboard woods, scale length options and many more benefits. It's just been a time saver getting them pre-done, but as I am now caught up with my backlog, I've been doing a few other things to make things run a little more efficiently, and began this L-00 size prototype due to some people showing interest in them. I may look into setting up for it....I've got some time to kill while the peghead/neck assembly for my current build is down south getting ready to be inlaid by someone here that we all know and love.... :D
