I`d like to shoot some Nitro outside,but I`m in Tennessee.Right now the humidity is at 60%.This is probably as good as it gets until it starts getting colder.What do you think? I`ll be using Hvlp.

James, what's the rest of your build environment like RH wise?

You could get away with it, spraying outside and then bringing it indoors where it's the same RH as the guitar was built in (off gassing will stink the place up though). But I wouldn't leave it outside for any length of time after spraying. Maybe 1/2 hr at the most.

Thanks Todd and Rod ,that`s what I figured.The out gasing doesn`t bother me.The shop isn`t RH controlled, but I have an AC duct that keeps it fairly decent.I`m at the point now that I`m going to get a de-humidifier for the shop .

Skin my friend not to be a nag here but what is out gassing are solvents and that is not good for you to breath. I want to see you in a couple weeks so I am trying to keep you safe!

Is there any other warm, dry room that you can put it in after spraying and during the cure month that you and the family don't use?

DO NOT take it inside to outgas, if there are people in the house.

What problems have you guys experienced by leaving instruments outside until the spraying is done and the nasty smells have (mostly) gone? I do that, and other than some occasional trapped humidity that is easy to fix, I haven't had any problems. I spray outside all year long, btw.

James, I currently spray Nitro in my garage which is not humidity controlled.

I've begun watching my concrete driveway for clues to outside moisture as well as my humidity guage.

If it's showing wetness as in a shine, I don't spray.

Once it's absorbed all recent rains, as in Gustav, then I'll spray.

Todd is right on AM and PM early and late. Anyone who's mown wet grass knows this too... Sometimes life tells you what to do.

We still had lingering clouds after three days of Gustav rains, I did paint a muffler for my antique tractor yesterday in my spray booth, but would have waited longer to spray nitro on a guitar.

I spray outdoors and hang the instrument in my patio under cover, but open to all the breeze that flows through. It hangs there for a week or so. Temperature anywhere from a low of 18 C at night to 35 C during the day. Humidity anywhere from 50 to 99+ %. Most of the time temp. in the 30's and RH is in the 70 - 85% range. No issues or problems whatsoever, You just need to plan when you spray, and choose your solvent and spray technique for your conditions.
