I don't want to open a sore subject (maybe it is not sore at all ) but where is
Grumpy. I haven't seen a post from him in a while. I find him blunt, funny, slightly obtuse but at the same time to the point. In my mind I see a older curmudgeonly old school guy. Did something go down here ?

I think Grumpy has a on again, off again relationship with this forum. He left a while back amidst allegations that he was an abrupt, foul tempered and arrogant SOB..of course, not whitstanding that his information and expertise was always top drawer...

He plays the old curmudgeon very well for someone not yet in his forties...

I think he also got sick of having to scroll down past a myriad of advertisements to get to the content. And of course he didn't appreciate the attitude of some of the forum members / hosts or whatever.
Different strokes...

I think the "Swapalooza" banner threw him over the edge! He really has an adverse reaction to any scrolling! If you want to see some posts from him, he still hangs out at MIMF.

Someone directed me to his website. It is who I thought it was. He is quite young. Web site says born in 66. So he is just into his forties. I never saw the arrogant part. He was just like a "old school" type teacher. Makes you dig a little bit before you get the answer. Makes you really think about your question before you ask. He would always come around after the first blunt answer. He never shut the door on a question, you just had to want it more. No quick fixes.
"Why does the wood do this" ? " Get a piece of wood, carve on it a bit and come back and ask me after you have spent some time with it." Then you answer your own question and come up with more in depth questions.
He was pretty forth coming in the end.
Anyway I am sorry to not see him around.

Yeah, I always looked for his answers, as they were always spot-on to the subject. You are right, though, he didn't suffer fools well, and did expect someone to do his homework before asking a question he could have answered with a small amount of experimentation. He has not changed, and some people still don't like, his shortness.

He's spot on with his observations. I miss his posts.

On the banner topic, you have to realize that Grumpy is a dwarf so he has short stubby fingers - he finds it vary laborious to use the scroll wheel on his mouse. :D

Kids, quit it with the "please return, Grumpy" silliness. And especially stop writing me off-list to try to persuade me to return. I'm alive and well, and yes, very busy, and I'm not in internet exile; if anyone needs my opinion or help, you all know were to find me(obviously) duh . I'm always more than willing to help out and share.

My absence is not due to excessive scrolling; trust me, I have a scroll roller on my mouse and know how to use it

Now, please return to your regularly scheduled threads, and forget about my ever participating here again; y'all are doing quite well. And yes, God willing, I'll be in AA later this month; just so happened to be staying nearby that day, on my way to Nashville! Won't be there all day, but for a few hours, anyhow. Looking forward to meeting many of you(but not all.... ;) <wink>)

I believe that in this case, AA means Ann Arbor (Michigan)

For most of us here AA will mean "Acoustics Anonymous"
