Hey OLF'ers...
Due to a lot of problems with my old web hosting/email service provider [headinwall] I have moved my web site and email to a new provider/hosting company. [uncle]
I have just uploaded my website to the new server and would appreciate a bit of help verifying it.

So, if someone has the time, and the inclination, I'd very much appreciate it if you could log into my site, run through the pages and see if they work for you. Then ckick on my Home Page, hit the email and send me a note about what you experienced. Site URL is www.mauelguitars.com (same as it was on old server).

This is not an attempt to build hits on my site, just a call for some "beta" testing. [:Y:]

Thanks,
Hank

Thanks, Pat.

The new host is Register.com. A much, MUCH more professional organization. Phone gets answered within 3 rings, a live person asks how you can be assisted, directs you to the right "department" and even tells you the wait time...so far less than 2 minutes.
They were very patient with this old guy who knows just enough of the web world to get into trouble! idunno

They started the web site transfer program last Tuesday, completed it yesterday and were able to set up my new email immediately. Talked with their "hosting" department early today and they helped me get the new user name, password, etc set up in my Cute FTP program. Once that was done, I uploaded my entire website in about 15 minutes...thanks to high speed cable! [:Y:]

So far I'm happy as a clam!

My old ISP got sold out several times over the past few years and the latest (last month) was TERRIBLE. The new provider sent me an erroneous billing. I sent 5 emails, none of which garnered a reply. Spent about 2 hours (in 4 separate calls) with music on hold. Never talked to a live person! When I called late one night I did get a voice mailbox...but it was full and wouldn't accept more! That did it! You can only beat me so long before I wise up! duh

Thanks again,
Hank

Hi Hank. the issue I see without checking everything out is you header graphic. Your logo in the upper left corner is slightly higher than the connecting graphic on the mail part of the page. It doesn't appear to me that you planned it that way but I may be wrong. I checked it on two different browsers (both mozilla based, firefox and Camino). Also on the left side bar, there is a gap between the top logo and the navigation bar that looks like it doesn't belong there.

I see the same thing as John on my Mac. Safari renders it properly.

Is this on the Home Page, a different page or all pages?
I'm looking at the site right now on a Windows pc and it looks OK. Same when I look in my FrontPage files.

The circular logo is predominant with the graphic page title bar tangent to the East (right) and the nav buttons/bars tangent to the south (down)...like two spokes of a wheel at 90 degrees. It should show up this way on all pages, with different titles and nav buttons, of course.

Hank, it's like the frame with the logo and the buttons does not line up with the other frame. The lines do not line up. It is that way on every page for me. I am using the latest version of Firefox, and that could be the problem. If you are using Front Page, it is really geared toward MS systems, and would probably be best if viewed in Internet Explorer. One thing I might suggest, as a novice at all this, is to generate a tag line of links, in text, at the bottom of the page so folks don't have to go back to the "Home" page every time to navigate the site. It could cause folks to leave rather than going back and forth. The other option would be to use the same navigation buttons on every page, leaving out the one of the page you are on. An example of what I'm talking about is on http://rosewoodguild.com, which is the site of my little ensemble group. Not particularly a good site, but you can get anywhere from any page, which is a good idea. I used both the buttons on the left and the little tag line of links at the bottom of each page, for what it is worth. The only way I know to fix the issue with the alignment of the logo lines would be to create a separate frame for the logo at the top of the page and have it go all the way across, then let there be a break to the frame with the buttons. The other option would to be not to use frames, which is what I did. Using frames creates some issues with the search engine bots that create search results by browsing your site. Just my thoughts. You have a really nice site, and fixing the navigation limitations would make it better, IMO.

Thanks, Waddy.

This site was built for me a long time ago by a good friend and was designed for the MS style of pc. There are things in it that I am not well grounded in. idunno I can do edits and updates, load photos and other things. I will have to sit down and play around with the idea of having the search buttons either like the homepage or along the bottom to enable a flow through access versus the back to the start style on most pages now.
If you log on someday and it's totally faschizzelled, well you'll know I was there! oops_sign

I know what you mean, Hank! I tried Front Page, and even bought "Front Page for Dummies", and it didn't help at all. I finally found a program that was easier to navigate, and was much more user friendly to build that site I made. Now that I have it up, I'm afraid to change it.
