This message on the front page doesnt look promising...

"After careful evaluation of our business, we have decided to temporarily close our doors. Our intention was for "Indian River Tonewoods" to be an enjoyable part-time business. However, we soon realized that maintaining a constant influx of high-quality tonewood requires substantially more work than we are currently able to give. And unfortunately, the business has begun to compete with my primary full time job. For the time being, we have made the difficult decision to sell off the remainder of our inventory at prices just above cost (some sets are even at or below cost). Our hope is that within the near future, our lives will be less hectic and we can reopen Indian River Tonewoods.

Thanks for stopping by and we look forward to working with you.

God Bless,
Alicia"

It is my understanding that their plan is to liquidate their inventory and to offer good finds from time to time as they come across them.

Hey Guys,
This is Simon Fay - Alicia, the owner of Indian River Tonewoods is a family member of mine and I have participated in a lot of the resawing for the business. And I just wanted to clarify a few things. Their original goal was to have this be a part-time tonewood business. I do a fair amount of resawing for my lutherie business and I often come across beautiful cants and billets that would make for some killer guitars. It seemed like a very logical idea - that this could be a "small-scale" tonewood business. However, what we discovered is that sourcing tonewood can be very difficult. To keep a constant influx of new material, you really have to spend a LOT of time looking for unique finds. Basically, we discovered that a tonewood business really doesn't function properly as a part-time business. It would be very likely that there would be months at a time when there would not be any new tonewood added to the site. And with the decline in the availability of instrument grade timber, we knew this is something that will likely never change

Hence the desire to sell off the inventory. And that is pretty much the whole story. There are some VERY nice things for sale. The Walnut and Bubinga in particular, are some of the nicest sets I have ever seen within those species. And I think the prices are incredibly good.

Thanks,
Simon

Welcome! Any chance of some photographs? I don't buy tonewood without seeing it first, even at bargain prices....

Thanks,
Dave F.

Okay I think I might have stuck my foot in the doo doo by moving my mouth before putting my brain into gear. Since my post Ive learned a few things about this business and Ive also had a chance to think more carefully about my comments.

I'd like to offer an unqualified apology to the owners of Indian River Tonewoods for any offence taken from my post and wish them all the best for their business.

Regards Martin

Thanks guys for the warm welcome! As you have probably noted from the posts, we are selling off our inventory due mainly to time constraints and maybe a bit of not understanding how difficult it would be to maintain an even flow of new tonewood. Just trying to close our doors honorably and with prices allowing us to break even. Our website has pictures of each item. If you need additional info or pictures just let me know. Wouldn't want to buy without seeing either. I am amazed at the wonderful builders on this forum. Good luck to each of you and thanks again for letting us sponsor this wonderful online community for a few months.

Martin, No offense taken at all. Definitely realize that this is not a normal circumstance - starting up a business and then announcing that we are closing our doors. We tried to explain on the welcome page what was going on, but maybe it didn't come across that well. Again, no problem at all. Alicia
