I took a 2 week intensive scratch build class with Norman Haight in Scottsdale Az. Gave me a good foundation for the basics and so idea what tools might be worth investing in. I have also clocked hundreds of hours studying various aspects of luthiery and acoustics, and have learned so much from the very generous folks on the OLF. I expect my luthiery education to be like that of my education as a veterinarian...never ending!

I didn't go to any schools but have spent 4 days with Kent Everett building a fingerstyle steel-string and I took a 2 day course with Ivon Schmukler about tops/voicing. My other training is lots of books, John Mayes DVD series and websites - forums and sites like Frets.com, Charles Hoffman, ect. I would love to go to any of the schools here in the US or in Canada but feel very grateful with my teachings so far. Maybe one day though...

Took and intro to Guitar making class taught by Rick Davis and Cat Fox at http://www.soundguitarworkshop.com/ Then followed that up with their intermediate, build from scratch class.

I can not imagine trying to build a guitar without having taken these classes. Got me totally hooked on building guitars. Cant recommend them highly enough.

I took the 2 week Charles Fox (ASL) class 4 years ago and, as has been stated earlier in this thread, it was great. Charles is a great teacher and it completely changed my approach. I would probably be far behind where I am today without that experience.

Nope. Not me.

I went to Art School. That trains you to believe that you can do anything. I've built a career making things that I've never trained in making.
