I used an outline of the Selmer marque and inset my name where the letters would go, then transferred the design to the headstock using carbon paper. I used a small V groove chisel to incise the line, then painted the gold paint in the small groove. Any excess was scraped/sanded away. Then I varnished over.

Originally they used a pantograph which would incise the line, then the gold paint was applied to the groove.

Gold leafing it would be even shinier if you're not aiming for a strict reproduction. They have cheap faux gold leaf at good art stores.

Draw up thew artwork.. bring it to a laser cutter/engraver (pretty cheap), once engraved (ideally with paper glued to the face), paint the engraved grooves with gold paint then peel the paper or sand it off. Only the gold will be left in the grooves. Looks dead nuts original..
