Hi everyone, I have made a handful of guitars for myself, mostly experimental, but this is the first I have made for someone else. A very good friend recently turned 50 and his closest friends and family asked if I would build him a guitar if they provided the cost of materials.

It took some 'creativity' to get him to reveal his preferences regarding dimensions, scale length, timbers etc without him knowing but we managed it and his reaction on delivery was priceless.

He is a keen motorcyclist so I used this as a theme, with the rosette being inspired by disc brake and calipers, the 5 MOP discs representing his 5 decades. The frontal Motorcycle design on the head stock and the small design at the bottom of the fret board are a little more obvious.

As gold is associated with 50th anniversary celebrations, I used brass for inlays to compliment the gold Grover tuners.

The fret board and string anchor is made from Richlite - I wasn't prepared for the toughness of this stuff - it's a pig but looks good.
Back and sides are African Mahogany, Soundbord is Western Red cedar and neck is Wenge and Meranti.

Here is the result.........

Very nice Fred. I especially like the head stock inlay and the carving at the fretboard end.
