Help, with out going into detail I cut my binding channel too low.
I'm using .250 Koa binding. is there any place that will special cut
5/16 wide for me ?

Why not add purfling to the bottom of the binding you have now?

the back side is done, Koa with white trim.
cut the purfling channel ok then the binding
channel for the top but the Router base came loose
while cutting the channel. the binding now lines up with the bottom
of the purfling channel.

So you want bindings that are 5/16” in height?

If you have any koa back/side sets, slice some strips off the sides.

Inlay a dummy strip of binding, that matches your side wood, and re-cut the channels.

Note to OP: My opinion (I've bound only 5 guitars), and based on this comprehensive experience, I suggest finding a pleasing way to stack up 1/16" more of purfling and carry on. I think that this would be less problematic than trying to restore the channel. Make some lemonade. I've also seen binding purfling done with what usually gets put between the binding and the soundboard, is often 1/8" wide, or so, it was unusual and attractive to me,and sure looked 'custom'. Lots of variations and LMI doesn't charge shipping.

I have seen many very expensive guitars with different binding scheme on the top than on the back. Pretty much all have fancier purfling on the front. Do not feel self conscious if you add more rows on the top.

Joe, I used Cocobolo back and sides with white trim on the bottom of the Koa binding. I thought if I cut new binding at 5/16 with the white trim, scrape
level with the top the untrained eye would never know. Thanks to everyone for the help.

That should work. The only other thing I could think of is, if you have the side cutoffs, then you could cut strips and glue them in. Then re-rout. most likely it would not show with rosewood. But... your method is much more straight forward and should look fine.

I would also say that with Cocobolo, binding it with the same wood or offcuts if you have them and then filling any gaps by sanding and thin CA could work great. If it does not look as good as hoped you can always rerout to original depth and go with plan B. No bridges burned.
