I've done two oval hole archtops but chickened out on the rosettes and just ended up binding the inside of the holes. I used the oval tool in "Paint" to design and print my ovals then made a template from cardstock to trace the hole onto the instrument. Arnt Rian does them and had offered some advice on them in past posts. He used a shop made scratch stock and a chisel to cut the rosettes after he had already cut the hole in the top, using the edge of the hole to register the scratch stock.
