I have a couple baroque instruments to make, but I'll put parchment on my Christmas list. I'll give making a baroque rose a go when I get that. Those are all kitted up, and just need a rose to get going.

The padauk archtop just needs a neck, blocks, tuners, and fret wire.

A Panormo romantic need the neck glued up, tuners, and fret wire

I have back, belly and sides for a dred, and a large Torres.

I have a few other guitar parts set up, but they are not as complete.

The small Torres just need a lower block and fret wire; so it is the most ready to go. I have thin stock to make a rosette.

Do any of you set up "kits" like this, so everything is ready to go? If I bought "real" tone wood, I would have sides. But you see something in a store....


This piece of walnut was long enough to get sides. I did have to get creative to get the width. Perfectly quartered HD cedar decking for the neck. I bought 3 red spruce sets online that are big enough for small romantic guitars with wings, for a great price. This didn't really need the wings.

Why be normal?

I was looking at fingerboard and bridge stock that I have. I found a piece of Katalox that has a purple cast to it. I could try to stain it to try to preserve it, or maybe even bring it out some. I have a package of veneer that has some Purple Heart, so I went out to Woodcraft and picked up some wood, and a vise. I think the colors will work well.

Yesterday I sliced up some cedar for linings. The saw was set, so I kept cutting. Then I cut som braces. I cut 4 thicker ones for the bigger braces, and went to thinner ones. Probably enough for a few. Then I noticed that the plan, and the larger Torres, both have little cheek pads outside of the sound hole, out of slab stock. So I cut a strip of those to get some for others too. I also cut out the very thin lower block.

I thought I was done, but I forgot the bridge. I started cutting it on the saw today, and the saw did not like it one bit. I keep finding wood at the high end of density. This is the same as water. I switched to a Japanese saw, and cut it with that. You have to watch plane direction when thicknessing. It is roughed out now. The plan doesn't have a side view of the bridge; maybe the bigger plan does. I have no clue about classical bridges.

Edit; the plan does show the side view of the bridge, but on the side view of the body page. I also just watched Robbie O'Brien make one. He is very easy to follow. I don't have a table saw, but I get the idea. The Torres bridge is only 8 mm high.

Now I'm ready to start building, but I have things to do next week around the house.
