People that like bluegrass will like this one.... heck, any guitar lover will love this one!

Doc Watson shows us how to play Black Mountain Rag. I'm pretty sure that the other player is playing a Doolin guitar...not sure about Doc's guitar, but it has some unusual position markers.

Oh Yea! Bunnies and Chickens can be quite mean! I wonder who would win in an all out fight, a bunny, a chicken or Bob Taylor? Huhm! :D

Yeah! Doc and Jack on BMR, it don't get much gooder'n that!

I can't figure out what guit Doc's playing, either. It's deifinitely not his Martin or Gallagher. If you pause it at 2:55 you can make out what appears to be name "John" on the label. Greven?

I have been looking forward to being able to share this. This is one of my repair customers, and another OLF member is building a baritone guitar for him also (I'll let that member tell you about it). I think you will enjoy his playing.

Introducing Derek Patton:

Derek has been out to my shop several times, and every time he comes he plays every guitar I have. It is a thrill to have him come over and serenade me with instruments that I have built. He is quite a remarkable player!

Very impressive Ken. Looks like he is classically trained. Nice technique, and very clean presentation. It really must be nice to have someone like that testing your guitars. Does he give you good feedback? Does he also play classical?

Derek only plays steel string guitars. H prefers the DADGAD tuning, and he is the one that I was talking about in another post that plucks the strings like one would play a harp. Under any normal playing methods, even a hard banging picker like me, the strings dont have any clue of a buzz. With his style of playing, he can make the E and A strings have a slight buzz on my guitars that drives me nuts. He says he doesnt hear it. He is fussy about guitar necks, and seems to like the way I carve and finish mine. The only complaints he has had about my guitars is that he doesnt want any position markers or anything else on his fingerboards. He prefers not to have any other bling on them either, but doesnt complain about the rosette having abalone in it. It has been a real benefit to have someone like him "test drive" my guitars. I know if I can satisfy him, I can satisfy most anybody. He seemed especiaslly impressed witht he last batch of guitars I made, and mostly the Oregon Myrtle one. I am now building all of my guitars using that technique so that I can capture it's tonal qualities.

Derek is a super guy, and a Registered Nurse. He works at a local hospital. He gave up playing guitar for 15 years, then started playing again recently. I am in awe at his talent.
