I’m very late to the game. I tried the tool out yesterday on the latest build.

I love the simplicity of the interface, nothing to tweak really it just worked right out of the box.

The autorun feature and the visual cues to prepare to tap and then tap are a big help.

Am I correct in my thinking that I could take the identified fundamental after 5 taps and use it in the formula? Or should I have been doing more inspection of the results?

Plugging the numbers into the spreadsheet gave me a target thickness of .105. After thinning the joined plates that’s right when I started to get the whomp. :D

If you are testing a completed guitar:
Depending where you place the mic, what is reported as the fundamental "T(1,1)2" might be the air mode "T(1,1)1" if your mic is right in front of the sound hole. In fact the software just report the tallest peak as the fundamental. Just make sure this is not the case by blocking the sound hole with something (I use the thin styrofoam from a meat platter cut to size). When the soundhole is blocked the peak which disappear is the Air mode.

If you are testing a plate then yes the fundamental is the tallest peak and is the plate frequency.

Fabulous. Thanks, Alain. It’s a great tool! It seems the evaluation lasts forever now? Or is there still a licensing option?

Thank you!

What does the registration part entail? It says 7 days.

I might suggest putting effort into making it an app.

We all carry an expensive recording suite in our pockets and get annoyed when it actually rings. I’ve been using an FFT called iAnalyzer since 2008.

The idea of having to set up a computer with a mic seems cumbersome to me when you can just set your iPhone on the bench and go, not to mention that you can take it with you whenever you go. I’ve taken spectrums of hundreds of guitars by big names at shows, in stores, at other people’s shops etc. On the spot convenience…

An app would be great. :) Plus you get a built in channel and transact ability in the App Store!

Particularly if that app included the spreadsheet where you can type in your data and have it spit out target thickness…

I’m guessing that’s getting into IP infringement territory? I don’t really know. I expect that replicating the formulas in a commercially available product would cross a line that the spreadsheet floating around the internet doesn’t? Would be curious to know. :)

The answer to that is a big no.

Can you own “math”? No.

Can you own an algorithm or series of algorithms that implement existing math in some novel or useful way which you intend to sell as a product? Yes.

The 7 days are days of use, not calendar or consecutive days. So, with a little planning, you have plenty of time to make a guitar.
