Post subject:  I seem to have Sypathetic string movement?..Common?

Hi There. Just was playing my classical I built in 2002, and noticed someting I hadn't before. When I play open 1st string, my 5th vibrates also, no others. Thought that was weird so I pulled out my HD28V, well, I'll be, same thing. Is this a common thing?

Thanks.

ever heard of harmonics ....

play any string ... any OTHER string which has that note as one of its lower harmonics will sympathetically ring ... because it can.

Give a listen to Stephen Bennett's 'Eye of God' on harp guitar .. the opening has awesome sympathetic ringing of the harp strings from a chord played on the guitar neck

I went into a local guitar store and they found that I could play they offered to set me up in a "Listening Room" which I thought was cool. As I would play though, that if I did and abrupt stop, the guitar didn't!!!

Freaked me out!

After looking closely at the guitar, I finally noticed a hole wall of banjo's! It was crawl'in with'em! Less than 2 ft away! The banjo's were singing along with me! When I came too I realized the reason they put me in that room! I never went back! Still bothers me sometimes!!!

Wow!
This thread has taken an especially bad turn! Sympathetic string vibration, to banjo orchestras, then to see my visage placed indelicately on third world banjo players using a bow, kind of like if Jimmy Page was a dork !! No good can come of this!
