Post subject: | Hello OLF !!! Newbie here |
Hello everyone !!! Like many folks here I've been lurking off and on for some time. I've not been brave enough to take on building a guitar ..... yet . I've always been interested in "building" things, just got that mechanical thing going on. (might have something to do with working in Chevy dealerships for 30+ years as a Parts Manager) Anyway, I'm a 50 year old on again player. My guitar hero is the late Michael Hedges (can't believe he's been gone for 10 years) hence my user name. It's very refreshing to find a group of folks with the passion you folks have, and the willingness to share info and ideas, and in the process have some fun and laughs. So you wasted enough time reading this, so get back to work and make some sawdust Mike M |

Welcome to the forum Mike! Drag up a chair and sit around the fire for a while, I'm sure you will enjoy your stay. I have to warn you that building guitars is contageous and next thing you know you will have afflictions like G.A.S., and W.A.S. and other dreaded things like T.A.S. too. |

Welcome to the OLF, Mike! Always glad to have another lurker come out of the closet, so to speak. I have found that, since I came here, not quite a year ago, all of the acquisition syndromes have become a part of my life, as has OLF. I have become an Official Luthiers Foraholic. If you hang out around here long, you'll be buying a kit and starting your own instrument. Did I mention buying a Kit? Building your own guitar? This is a great forum with generous, and knowledgeable people. |

Welcome Mike to the OLF, I'd never heard of Michael Hedges until recently. Another OLFer mentioned his one-off made guitar by a builder in Maryland. It is featured in Acoustic Guitar magazine. It was a steel string guitar built on a classical bracing scheme. The YouTube images of him and his music speak to his free spirit. That would be a great first guitar to build a famous Hedges/duBourg. Piece of cake. Bruce |

That would be a great first guitar to build a famous Hedges/duBourg. Piece of cake. Bruce He was for sure a free spirit, but a shy one. He had a knack for remembering the folks that saw him perform several times. The DuBourg was a guitar he bought while attending the peabody Conservatory. The story was that he played several DuBourg's and had settled on one guitar, but needed to get the cash together. When he returned THE guitar had been sold. The buyer was contacted, and a swap for the guitar was worked out. Later it was stolen from his van, and turned up several years later in a total state of disrepair. It went to Gryphon in Palo Alto, who in turn sent it to some "dude" who was able to put the guitar back to it's amost original condition. The return of that guitar inspired Hedges to go back to his roots and write solo fingerstyle tunes again. I know that Hedges oldest son, Mischa, is a player and has access to his fathers guitars.
