Post subject: | Peghead Question |
Hello! After doing four headstocks with a standard paddle style headstock I decided to try a slotted pehead on my current L-00 "style" build. My issue is in regards to my slots. They are standard rounded on each end but I just realize that I will need to make "sting ramps?" at the bottom of each slot to allow the strings to access the tuning machines. Is there a standard measurement for this or is it an eyeball it thing? (Using Grover Sta Tites for my tuning machines) Thanks! Ray |

I just eye it, and when I'm getting close I place a nut at the end of the FB and then put a straight edge on the nut to the first post hole and verify that I am clearing the floor of the ramp. |

Lance, does that angle change after you slot the nut? |

The terminus of a Martin ramp is almost touching the nut. At least my little 00 is done that way. I think it looks good, and you sure avoid the embarrassment of strings digging into your headstock finish. Steve |

Slotheads usually have a slender angle, around 12º vs. 18º for Martin I think. Some Spanish guitars have almost no angle on the peghead, which solves the issue of the ramp being too shallow. |
