Over the next couple months, Saint Lutherie will be partnering with an extremely high-end wood supplier to bring you out of this world Walnut and Curly Redwood sets. The Walnut will be Claro as well as Bastogne, it's denser and prettier cousin I figured I'd give you guys a sneak peek at some of the random sample sets I've got floating around here. There's more stuff in the pipeline that makes these look like 1A Oak, so stay tuned! The vertical lines you see in the pics are compression marks from the face mill, the finish it left was too shiny! They're all Claro except the Chocolate and Vanilla, which is Bastogne. |

My opinion Most of the time being broke doesn't bother me but I am a sucker for Claro, I am wondering if you might have a slightly side? Is it against the law to sell a teenage son into slavery to finance W.A.S? |

Ooooh, Ahhhhh. That's purty. I've got several nice Claro sets, but no Bastogne. Might have to do something about that. |

Boingoingoingoing. I have and love both Claro and Bastogne. My Bastogne is more of a green shade than the Chocolate stuff you have there. I'll be waiting...mostly to see if I can afford another set. |

I would definitely be interested. The guitar I am building now is curly walnut from Allied. I really like it |

Beautiful wood Bob, is it from Global Wood Source? They have nice walnut like that quite often, and curly redwood is local stuff that they get quite a bit of too. They went to NAMM for the first time this year and I know they supply several other wood vendors. Even if it's not them (or you decline to spill the beans!) I will tell y'all that I have found many spectacular pieces of wood over at Global and have spent many happy hours sifting through their boards. They have gotten wise to the real value of boards that are good for guitars though, and the prices have risen accordingly.... Recently I snagged several large billets of superb cocobolo from them that will make some very nice sets (photos to follow - NPDH). SCGC grabbed the best piece of cocobolo just a few hours before I got there apparently! Dave F. |

Indeed beautiful wood..........too busy for my taste though......... I prefer wood with much more restrained figure which will better highlight inlay motifs rather than compete with them. This produces an overall austere and elegant effect which, to my sense of aesthetics, wears better over time. Count me out of the crowd that is chasing after the wildest stock out there. Best! |

I've seen the sets Bob has posted in person and they are even nicer than the photos! |

Dave Fifield wrote: Beautiful wood Bob, is it from Global Wood Source? Nope, my partner buys the logs directly. There are only two people between the log and you, and that's he and I. We want to go directly to the builders, instead of having a load of middle-men. But don't let the small number of people involved fool you, we have a -lot- of this stuff. |

We'll be offering 'lower grade' sets as well, though they'll definitely be the exception. There's some beautiful coloring in unfigured Bastogne that I don't think many woods can compare to, at least to my eye. |
