I'm using the u-channel type truss rod (martin style?) for the first time on this build. I've previously just used the standard LMI steel string.
How are the U-channel type typically installed? Epoxied? Deeper with a shim over the top? How thick is the shim typically?
And if I adjust the rod from the soundhole end, how close to the nut can I place the other end?

I don't want the channel to start hanging out into the guitar body, so I'm trying to get it as far toward the peghead as possible, but I'm wondering how close to the nut I dare get with the non adjustable end.

I run mine right under the nut, right up to the headstock, often cutting a little bevel on te end to scoot it even farther forward. Other than that, What Todd said....

Perfect. Exactly what I needed on both counts. Thanks for the heads up on the angle of the shim to get the adjustment head under the soundboard.
