Sure you can build with it. Not sure how the back will tap out but will make a beautiful guitar. I have a commission in progress that is using some Curly Narra with a a patch of burl at the center seam. Amazing looking stuff.

Says the back's not narra, it's amboyna? Is that the same?

I say that I was just making the point that burl can be used I am not sure of the tonal attributes of Amboyna, But that would not be the main reason you would use this wood anyway.

The seller is Jason Voth's family there in Chilliwack. They also have big leaf and wr cedar.

This is Keith McKenzie's guitar on their site. Where is Jason anyway?

Personally I'd stay away from that stuff. Too many risks of cracks unless the builder uses it as a veneer and uses another stable wood for backing. Without mentioning that the sides are an awful match, or no match at all…

I was also going to say that's from Jason Voth. He does know his stuff. Honestly I'd stay away from it but that's only because I don't think I have enough experience to handle the wood.

Bruce, I see Jason's folks every now and than (last time was early September). They told me that Jason is getting into the concrete counter top market. I think he likes to keep busy doing lots of different and fun stuff. Cutting tone wood all day long might get rather tedious and boring.

Jason, if you read this sign in bud, we'd love to hear from you dude.

This is from Bow River Craft Woods, not Columbia Valley so unless they are the same company I don't think it is Jason's family. Bow River is another family business and I talk to Daniel there fairly often, late last week was the last time. I have been to their facility as well and have a good idea how their business runs. So I can say that they do know tonewood and do have a broad customer base, including the likes of Breedlove! Call and ask a few questions if you have some concerns about the wood and I would ask for a better picture so you can see if there are any issues. I think Amboyna burl is indeed from the Narra tree. So they are one in the same!

If you like this look, this would be an ideal situation to laminate (or "double" as some call it). However, I think you would be better off to buy a flitch of fancy veneer for the outsides and laminate that to a plain mahogany or similar interior.
