I've got an old Hofner archtop in at the moment, and at some point in it's life the bridge has been super glued in to place. I've freed up/removed the bridge, but there's still super glue on the finish. Normally it'd be out with the acetone - but I'm sure this can't be a great idea on the nitro. Anything else that'll help me clean up this mess? |

Go to a hobby shop... you should be able to find some CA solvent. I know that Satellite City has a product called Super Solvent that works pretty well. The active ingredient is nitro methane. If there's a race shop nearby, you might be able to beg a small amount. |

Really your best approach is to take a razor blade turn a burr on it. Grind the corners round and apply some Scotch tape at the corners and use it as a scraper and scrape the CA till near dead flush with the finish. Then take 600, 800,1200,1500,2000 and bring dead flush to the finish then buff out with fine then extra fine compound. Do this and you will never see it again providing the CA did not get contaminated with anything to cause it to fog. This is a common ding repair technique. Drop of CA cure then use the method I mentioned to bring the CA flush to the nitro and buff out. |

You could try to route the area off with a dremel tool like others do when they remove finish before gluing the bridge on. It would be much faster, but more dangerous. Just tape off the area, and use the stew mac base, or some other base with your dremel and a small spiral bit. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out. |

I like using a file. It's my experience that filing leaves a much more level result than scraping on concave surfaces such as the bridge area of an archtop. A file works especially well when tasking care of a rough area like superglue buildup where a razor blade may want to chatter. Perhaps starting with a file and finishing with a razor would be ideal. |
