So far I've bent koa and walnut, but not cocobolo. Anything different I should know before I take the plunge? |

One of my most favorite woods! And like Todd says, bends like "butta"! |

Bends like concrete for me. Perhaps it was the piece I had.... Steve |

Steve - I had an experience with some Bois de Rose that your description fits perfectly! The stuff just shattered every time I applied any pressure to it, regardless of heat level. But I do think it was the particular piece of wood. Never had that happen with cocobolo (yet...) |

Hey Pat, that's good to hear. In fact, why don't I just send all my Cocobolo to you, and let you bend it? Seems like a plan to me, anyway..... Steve P.S.--I'm sure you're right about the individual piece. I attacked some Bocote recently that I was just sure would give me the devil trying to bend, and it bent--as you so well said--like butta. Which was fine with me, by the way. I was just expecting a wrestling match. I enjoy those surprises! |

Steve - an interesting offer, but I bend my sides on a hot pipe, and I suspect you build way more guitars in given year than I do, so you'd get really behind waiting on me! Reminds me, though, I need to build a side bender one of these days... |

Like: bending my wood on a hot pipe. Actually, I've got some Sloane type side forms, which I put my bent sides on, and then cook 'em till done. Sort of a two-step process, like the guys did back in the 1300's. Steve |
