Well I finally got off of my bum and decided to get moving again on the guitar. After a bit of frustration routing out the radius dish about six long months ago I sort of got side tracked. So I went at it pretty hard this week and made the dish and then braced and voiced the top. Ok, so there wasn't much "voicing" going on... just me tapping on the top every 10 or so minutes of progress. Sounds ok I suppose... I stuck to the OLF OM plans pretty much the whole way. I do have a question though... the plans call for a 25.4" scale, but I think I might want to go for a 24.9" instead. Would that be a big deal? I think I just have to glue the bridge plate and put the hole for the truss rod and I can close the box up. Critiques are welcome, though unless someone tells me it will fall apart as soon as the strings are on.... or it will sound like a banjo, I think the bracing is pretty much done. Just a little clean up to do. Here are some pics. |

Oh yeah, the one picture of the random pole is just a shot of how I made my go-bar deck adjustable. Just pop in the button and slide it up or down. I'm not sure if anyone else has done it that way, it was just what I had on hand. Worked out pretty well. |

The tone bars and finger braces look really tall. Also you should feather your fingerbraces down to nothing so not to induce a stress crack. Are you going to adjust your truss rod thru the UTB? If so, you need a hole. Did you make a clamping caul for your bridge yet? These are some questions you need to ask yourself before closing up. Don't ask. Clinton |

Thanks Todd, I think I might just stick with the plans and continue with the longer scale. What you are saying makes sense, but if I try to make changes now I'm sure I'll just drag it out further than necessary. The braces are a bit taller than what I typically see here, but they are per spec and the top seems to be ringing loud and clear. Thanks for the reminder about the caul for the bridge! Off to radius the rim! |
