The Easy Jointer - This jig was created and used by Edward Victor Dick of EVD Stringed Instruments, and Director of The Colorado School of Lutherie. Edward has been using this jig for the last 10 years, and finds that it is much easier for his students to get their tops and backs jointed in less than 5 minutes with no fuss. When we tested this jig, we were amazed at how accurate and fast it is to use.

This jig is geared more towards the beginner, but I know of many expert Luthiers who are using a jig just like this because it is so fast and accurate. Just hold your top or back against the fence and sand. Because the base and glass are very flat, it allows you to joint very easily and effectively. They are only $49 + $14 shipping. Tracy bro I received the email announcing the Easy Jointer a few days ago and it looks great. I just jointed a German top last night and although I do fine with a #5 Record and touch up with a level with sand paper on it the Easy jointer looks like it would make this even easier, faster, and less frustrating - all good things.......

With the level I always have to change the sand paper each time because if you don't the sand paper that you last used on a back, hardwood, will leave a noticeable line if the same sand paper is used on the next top that you do. It occurred to me that I think that this jig, your jig, could have the glass turned around with a dedicated sand paper for tops and backs so changing and wasting paper would no longer be an issue. Is this a valid point?

My question not addressed in the email or your post above is does the glass come with it?

And how soon will these be shipping?

Many thanks!

Thanks so much Hesh! Actually the jig works exactly the way you want it to. The reason we have knobs on the fence is to loosen the knobs and lift the fence up, then slide the glass forwards or backwards to get a new strip of sandpaper for the very reason you describe. The glass and 120 grit sandpaper come with the jig. If you want to only do rosewoods on one side of the glass, and spruces on the other, you will just need to add another piece of sandpaper to the glass. This should work fine. If you find your strokes are causing gaps in the middle, then just add some tape to the bottom piece under the glass. This should resolve all issues. We are already taking orders, and should be shipping all orders this week.

Great Tracy - I'll take one then and I also would like to order your radius templates too, one in 15' and the other in 25'.

Would it be possible for you to send me a PayPal invoice please when you get a chance to do so - no big hurry.

And thanks as always Tracy for your very cool and innovative products. [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap]

Tracy,

We have joined a bunch of tops and backs on the easy jointer jig this semester. Seems to be working like a charm and it sure beats the plane and shooting board method for beginners.

Thanks Robbie! Actually the one you have in your class is just the prototype. The released version is much better because of the taller fence and handle in the fence. Not only that, but 1" thick material for the base and fence! I'll have to donate a new one to the school.

I could certainly use another one cause sometimes people are lining up behind it to use it.

Many thanks Tracy bro - I just payed the PayPal invoice.

I have been on the fence for a while now about getting a jointer but joining plates is one of the very few things that I would use it for. And my shop has limited space as well. The EZ Jointer is perfect for me and can be stored when not in use.

Not having to change the sand paper on my level when ever I switch from jointing a top to a back is a nice plus too and will be more economical.

Thanks again for your very fine products that have very much become part of how I build each Flushtone guitar. [clap] [clap] [clap]
