I saw some 30' slabs of that stuff in my local hardwood store here in Illinois just the other weekend.

They have about 10 slabs, 30 feet long and from 2-4 feet in diameter of curly bubinga. Never saw anything like it in my entire life. Thick, as in, 2-3 inches thick, too. Maybe you can call them and see what might be possible. Possible the whole tree and I wish I had pictures, because nobody is going to believe me.

Gilmer woods specializes is giant curly bubinga for table tops, typically $5000. They also sometimes offer smaller pieces for luthier work.

Try this page. It's specifically figured bubinga.

I remember Shane (High Mountain Tonewoods) had a bunch of bubinga in last year sometime. I'm not sure exactly what he did with it, whether it all turned into back/side sets or what, but it's worth giving him a call.

Bubinga neck? It'll be like...heavy. What is it for?

I have bought some bubinga backs and sides from Larry Davis at Gallery Hardwoods in the past.

I hope you'll excuse the big galoot holding this guitar, but here's an option that you might consider: this neck has a center lam of curly Bubinga, w/ mahog outer lams. Keeps the weight down, gives a very stiff neck, and matches the back and sides nicely. Only problem is I'm out of the stuff.

Cook Woods has some nice pieces available still (although all the really good stuff is already sold) check it out here.

My local guy Global Wood Source also may have some nice pieces still - give them a call - website is here.

Cheers,
Dave F.
