I thought some people might be interested in this for interest's sake. You get to see the evolution of a type-based logo (called a "wordmark"). If you have a professional do this or you, it shouldn't be much more than a nice set of Koa; if you think of your brand development in those terms, you might be more willing to develop it.

First, "Aslan" is set in unmodified Adage Script. Next, some of the letter faces are bumped up or down on the baseline. Then the A and N get some serifs. And finally, Aslan gets a tail. With that information in hand, please don't copy :)

Very cool James my friend. I didn't know what Aslan meant and thought that it might be a place like Vegas or Amsterdam...... But I looked it up and it is a character - the Great Lion - correct?

Very cool! I dig the tail coming off of the "n". Turkish for 'great lion' - my dad used to read the Narnia series to me and my sister when we were youngins.

I think you're right, Hesh...hence the lion tail on the first one.
Nice logo.

Thanks for reminding me that context is always important :) Christian is correct on both counts. Aslan is Turkish for Lion, and also the name of one of the main characters in C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia series. They're young adult fiction, but I love reading them. But I was also hanging out with The Secret Garden on Monday during lunch. Which I'm spending today hanging out on the forum, lol.

Bruce, you would use a vector graphics program of some sort to do this kind of work. Vector because you can manipulat the image size/resolution without quality loss. I use Adobe Illustrator personally. It is a huge learning curve. Dwight from 73ideas.com did the actual production on this. We worked on it together. I provided the typeface and a few other ideas, and then he improved upon them. I say know your limitations. I knew he would take my concepts and make them even better.
