Post subject:  any luthier shop in chicago

I will be traveling to Chicago this weekend for a meeting ( March 8) I will have some free time on Saturday and was wondering if anyone knows of any luthiers in Chicago that have a shop worth visiting. I often visit guitar stores when in a new area, however I would prefer to see some custom guitars.

Richard Brune's shop is in Evanston, it's worth a look if you have any interest at all in classicals. They have a showroom and retail shop and a guitar museum of sorts (including Torres, Hauser, etc). I took Marshall Brune's French Polishing class there.

Did a mapquest search and it appears to be just a short cab ride from town to Evanston,
Thanks Jonathan

You must visit Ian Schneller. http://www.specimenproducts.com or google Chicago School of Guitar Making

He also teaches guitar building (Chicago School of Guitar Making)

You will be blown away. He makes some of the most unique guitars. He also makes horn speakers and tube amps. He is very well known in Chicago and will certainly welcome you, but call ahead first.

Washburn Guitar factory is in a suburb of chicago. They gave me and my son a private tour several years ago. If you are interested, give them a call.

No such thing as a short cab ride from downtown to a suburb in Chicago. ;)

You can take the L train to Evanston though.

The shop is real close to the train station in Evanston if I remember correctly.

I called Richard Brune's shop is in Evanston, and it looks like a visit to his shop may fit into my schedule. I will call Ian Schneller on Thursday ( they are closed on Wednesdays). It would be great to visit both places.
Thanks for the suggestions.

I hope it works out for you, John. Visiting other builders, especially those whom you look up to, can really light a fire in you to do this.
