Is anyone interested in buying one of these at a discount? I have one with the steel string cutter set that I don't use. I used it on two guitars and decided to stick with my laminate trimmer setup. Retail is $192.35, I will sell for $140. - Justin

Will a little benchtop DP swing that big sucker?

It works great, but the setup time is a little long. It's fine if you want to do a bunch of the same style rosette, but I build one at a time and don't always want to do a 3 ring rosette (for example).

It's very lightweight, I don't see why a benchtop drill press wouldn't work fine. My press has a 1/2 hp motor and I had no problems. Just make sure your work surface is square to the arbor before using (or you could make uneven depth channels).

I got one I bought 2nd hand, it is great as you say for doing the same design repetitively. It is also great for hogging out the worst of the cut and finishing with a trimmer if you want something a bit different. No biggy to set up either IMO once your use to it.

I have an 8" Delta benchtop drill press and it works great with this tool. Use either of the slowest two speeds and you'll have no problems. Resetting the tool is fairly easy if you lay out the design on paper with a compass and then use calipers to transfer the dimensions to the cutters. I made a "stand" out of a small 8"x8" 4" deep cardboard box by cutting a 2" diameter hole in the bottom. I set the box upside down on the bench and with the tool cutter side up the hub on the top of the tool fits right into the hole in the box. That way the tool stays stable while I move the cutters around. Setup only takes about 10 minutes.
