After viewing a few nice basses that were posted recently I decided to get moving on a bass. Since I am a bass player it has been really great to just cut up the wood and start building and not have to think so hard about all the different parts. I guess this will put my acoustic building on a hold for a few weeks but I think it will be a nice break. I am really pleased about much progress I was able to make in the first week. (I wish my acoustic building moved this fast!)

The neck is a 5 piece maple, Ebony fingerboard, Maple top on a ash body.

I still need to trim the neck flush with the face of the body but hopefully I will do that tomorrow.

Just started roughing out the neck. I used the idler roller on my edge sander to rough the radius on the back of the neck the same way John Mayes does in his instructional videos. This worked great!

I am still unsure what pickup configuration I will be using but am considering a Bartolini Musicman Style pickup with a Bass/Treble or Bass/Mid/Treble preamp. Something a little different.

I will probably finish the bass with a translucent blue which should highlight the figured maple top but let the plain maple neck and ash back blend in well.

Thanks for looking!

Brad!!!

That looks awesome! I really love the headstock...It is so very clean. The body is certainly progressive, but still carries a lot of the traditional feel which makes it very attractive to the eye at first glance...Can't wait to see it as it moves along..

Thanks for the kind words....just waiting for some pickups (double J's) and hardware and then I should be able to finish cutting the pickup cavity, electronics cavity, etc.

Can't wait for the next steps!
