Post subject:  "satin" finish repair question

Hi,

I have a new Guitar in the shop for 2 crack repairs on the top. Spruce and very "tight" cracks. My qusetion is: it is finished in a satin finish and though I have done many repairs on "gloss" nitro this is the 1st one with this type of finish. Anyone have any techiniques for working with this finish? idunno

Right now I am trying to see if "humidity" will tighten the cracks, but if I have to work any splints in I will obviously need to match this satin finish.

Thanks in advance for any ideas\advice.

Not really a technique but satin usually requires a full panel refinish in order to look unirorm.

One question to ask your self is this factory built with a chemical reactive satin finish or is this a hand applied satin finish via the steel wool/paste wax method or maybe a sprayed finish with a satin matt?
