Finished this Dready this week which we are delivering to the customer in Tasmania this weekend. There's an ulterior motive to our personal delivery strategy. Dave and I are taking the ferry across tonight and hope to fill the back of his ute (pickup truck in American-speak) with some Tassie timbers. Thanks for looking Bob |

Bob, that's up to your usual high standards. Love that bearclaw...shazam! Say, is that Cheesewood used for the bindings? (I'm trying to get a handle on Ausie woods.) It's a nice match for the mahog. Steve |

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. Steve - it was supposed to be Cheesewood but we routed the binding ledge a little too deep and had to put Maple on it. Frei - it's sounds like a dreadnought. Seriously, I have a D-18 here that I bought new back in 1980 and another Dread that I finished a couple of weeks ago out of Native Olive/Red Spruce. Firstly it has that typically dry sound that you would expect from a Mahogany/Sitka combination. It has more bottom end than the Martin and is particularly "growly" around the D and G string which is what I want to hear in our dreadies. ie it has more mid range punch than the Martin. Trebles are crisp and clear, bitey without being too fat. And it is louder than the D-18. So I'm at peace with the elements. It is quite different than the Native Olive Dread. The Native Olive is very dense and has more of the deep reverby bottom end and metallic tops you'd expect from the rosewood family. And the Olive one is louder again and having the Red Spruce top you can really wail into it without overdriving it. The bloke I'm staying with in Tassie over the weekend has a nice D-28 so we'll have a chance to stack it up against that one too. Cheers Bob |

Apologies, but too tight a schedule for recording this time. Besides - theres a mountain of Tiger Myrtle over there waiting for me to roll in it. Bob |
