Post subject: | Compression Rods and Fretting Questions |
I just finished a few guitars with a new neck design, including a compression truss rod (similar to Gibson, Benedetto, etc.) I have always used two way rods. Once the strings were on the new ones I noticed that there was a slight buzz around between frets 2 and 4 (at each position). I quickly realized that this was due to a slight back bow in the neck prior to string tension. Is anyone here using this style rod on their instruments? If so, could you share your expereinces in compensating for this while leveling frets. I was thinking of buing the stewmac neck jig for this but am looking for other ideas. Many thanks. |

You tighten the rod a bit and then level the board before fretting. If you don't force more backbow into the neck when you fret (you won't if the slots are the right size), this should leave you with some forward bow when the truss rod nut is loose, so your rod becomes in effect double acting. |
