Post subject:  determining string guages

I am wondering , when and how you go about determining what guage strings to use . I have my top assembled, braced and carved to what I think sounds good, even though the braces till seem a bit stout , with the perimeter of the top clamped between to pieces of plywood rims , the resonant frequency seems to be @ 138.59 ( c#3), I am nervous about thinning any more because my mahogany back seems to be @ about 164 ( e3) and if I lower the resonance of the top I may not be able to couple it with the back , ( not even sure if I will be able to do that now since my back braces are getting thin , with litttle drop on frequency) right now the back is near .0103 thick , so I am thinking i can thin it some after assembly , and hopefull bring it within range . I am thinking heavier( medium ) strings may drive the top more .. but I realy dont know ! Jody
