I want to fill a humbucker route and the re-finish the body (maple solid body) to appear as the hole was never there. Should I use 100% wood putty or should I glue a piece of wood in the hole, and then fill the remainder with wood putty? |

My inclination would be to use wood where possible. The putty might shrink and leave cracks. The wood is stronger. |

Wood block, then Bondo (opaque finish, yes?). Wood putty is pretty awful stuff. |

There's a tutorial for trem to hardtail conversion over a project guitar - very similar process... http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/tht1.htm |

Thanks guys, this really helps. I had a lady in Austin that claimed she knew what she was doing work on my bass, and it just didn't turn out the way she said it would. Guess I should have asked one of you guys first. I think I may give it a try. timo |
