just that. any recommendations? I took goldsmithing once upon a time. i know vaguely about brands etc. from back then. any combinations of systems you like? like any feedback on motors? I know from back when, everyone said the cheaper motors were irrtating when trying to maintain consitantcy in lines etc. |

Foredom SR and I highly recommend the Stewmac hand piece in conjunction with their inlay router base. Now you could make your own inlay router base to fit any Foredom hand piece but I really like the Stewmac Foredome hand piece. I did removed the base plate from my Stewmac inlay router base and replaced it with 1/4" Clear Lexan. It makes it easer to see where you’re going. But I really like the adjustment mechanism of the Stewmac inlay router base. Also plan out your work area just right so that you can hang the motor near directly above where you will be working. You want a little of free and loose flex shaft but not too much so that the flex shaft is never wanting to pull to any direction or getting in your way as you work. This means you will need a way to adjust the height of the motor based on the piece you are working on. |

i am not a foredom user, but i do use a cochran plunge base for the dremel. the base is fantastic, the dremel is ... well... a dremel. but they do make the base to take a foredom handpiece. not cheap, but the best aftermarket base around. |
