I'm in process of taking the next leap in guitar building and doing a little inlay. This rosette was done today, but I don't know if it is enough. One option would be to put another purfling line around the whole rosette. Another would be to put a bwb line around the whole works. Finished will be a douglas fir/mahogany parlor bound in rosewood with thin bwb purfling on top and sides. The dots, rosette and head will have the faux-turquoise inlay. Your opinions are valued. yup, I think 1 more bwb ring would be nice. Whatever the distance is from your soundhole edge the the edge of the rosette is the measure I'd use to space the outside ring. |

I like the extra bwb ring on the outside. It will be beautiful contrasting against that nice top. The only thing I see that could be a problem, is if the end of the fretboard will cover your rosette gap on the fretboard end. Have you measured the width of the fretboard as it contacts the soundhole? Good luck, and nice job! |

With that tight waist I would probably leave it like it is. Either way it will look great! Is that 4 pc. top? I have done some with wings and they are holding up great. |

I would add the extra outside ring, I like the way that it looks. I have done it often as on this one. However I would add it closer in than on the illustration you have given. Attachment: 007.jpg Colin |

Dave my friend you certainly could do what ever you wish with this rosette - there are no rules. My own criteria is how big is the guitar? If it is a larger guitar I consider a larger rosette and if it is a smaller guitar I go with a simple wood, single piece rosette. Here is an example of a larger guitar from me. Thanks guys. The lines right now are flat black. I can't decide if an extra BWB ring would make a nice transition to the BWB purfling or if it would contrast too much with what is already on the rosette. blegeyt, yes it is a 4pc top. Kind of an experiment from a fence board my father-in-law bought in 1960. Well seasoned wood. Dave |
