I saw one of Jet 14" bandsaw model JWBS-14CSW without fence USED for $225.

What is considered good price for one of these in good working condition?

Is this nice bandsaw compared to other 14"?

Can fence be orderd? I ask because I think this particular model of bandsaw has been discontinued.

THanks, David

I'd recommend a Kreg fence for it. I'd also recommend several upgrades to various components, if they haven't already been done. Louis Iturra (Iturra Designs, 866-883-8064, no web site) specializes in bandsaw accessories for 14" saws. He has everything you need and an educational catalog to help you figure it all out. He'll help you on the phone, too. First step is to give him a call and request the catalog. Good luck!

That would be a nice score David! A pretty good deal, even if you have to replace a few parts.
Bandsaws generally don't wear out too fast, so you shouldn't have too much trouble with it.
Go for it, I say!

Do you need a 6" jointer? I have a lead for one that was being offered free, "buyer" collects from San Francisco.
If you do, let me know and I'll call the guy and see if it's still available....at the last marquetry group meeting I went to, he was offering it to anyone who would take it, but there were no takers!

Cheers,
Dave F.

For what you need the saw to do right now, you are probably good as is. As Todd mentioned, there are lots of improvements to make if you decide to to do resawing, etc., but wait a bit to do them until you figure out which are going to do you the most good.

Well, I was having a lot of vibration in my brand new Jet 14" saw (when I first bought it about 6 years ago) until I put in a link belt and replaced the belt wheels with upgrades from Iturra. I also found a new tensioner wheel thingie to be well worth the money for the time saved in blade changing. I also needed some special washer-like spacer thingies from Iturra to get my blade wheels lined up (coplanar) with each other.

Then there's things like new tires on the blade wheels and new blade guides and bearings.

Also, for some weird reason, Jet saws have an interesting achilles heel: where the tensioner rod seats in the saw's cast frame, at the bottom of the rod, it wears down into the iron rather quickly. You might want to look there and see how much wear there is or if it's already been fixed. The fix is to drill out some iron and put in a steel something-or-other, like a good, hard steel nut.
