Hi folks,
I thought this would interest anyone headed to the Montreal show.
My wife and I applied for our passports Friday April 25th and they
arrived today, 8 days later.
Im not saying wait any longer than you have to, BUT the USPS/US GOV are moving them
along pretty good now..

When I applied for a passport recently, they told me it would likely take 6 months. It took about three weeks. You guys have fun in Montreal, I hope to make it there one of these days as well.

Progress Baah....?

29 years ago I went to the US embassy in Sydney Australia to renew my US passport.
The old one I presented was 20 years old with a picture of me at age 4.

They were sorry but it would take 2 days to issue the new one.....

But . . . but Montreal is in North America. Why would an American need a passport?

Canada's still a foreign country to the US, same as the US is foreign to Canada. The passport simple makes things easier for tracking and such. Keeps convicted criminals and the like from being able to cross the borders and possibly cause/create trouble.

I applaud it, same as I applaud stricter airport security. Those who keep their noses clean and have the proper paperwork need never worry. All others, well....

Here are two options, well three right now. If driving you can stil get in to canada and back with a DL and Birth Cert. The USPS now has a Passport "lite" that is cheaper and allows you to drive in to Canada and Mexico, BUT in order to fly, you MUST have a Book Version Pass Port.
This post was to let those that have not yet applied for there PP to relax. I was in panic mode, I was told 6 to 8 weeks by the USPS. Then at my local Jackson office they said "under there breath" 4 weeks. Well, it came in 8 days. So, my wife and I are good to go.

Washington State has enhances licenses that will allow you to drive across the border. They have a RIF chip in them with all your pertinent information that can be, will be scanned. Same concept as the chips used in pets. If I remember correctly, it took less than two weeks for it to arrive; which is what it takes for them to send you a regular license.

Canada's a foreign country? You just have to drive north and you're there. That doesn't sound foreign to me! Even if they do have a lot of criminals there, I think we should treat all Americans the same, even the Canadian Americans. After all, Mario gets to sell his guitars in Tennessee.
