OK, I'm using black/bloodwood/black purfling with curly maple binding on the body.My wife really likes the bloodwood binding on the neck. I know usually the bindings match. I was afraid that it might look "top heavy" with the darker binding on the neck(ebony FB). I don't know, I do like the contrast, it looks nice with my rosette, red myrtle burl. And it does bring out the red in the purfling. What do you think?? idunno Clinton

That might work well. It is hard to say for sure without seeing the body and the appointments. You could throw a thin maple line between the bloodwood and the ebony fingerboard to keep a theme going and lighten up the visuals some.

What woods are you using for the body and the neck?

The body is sapele and the neck is walnut. The head veneer, FB and the bridge is ebony I just don't recall seeing any guitars with a darker color binding on the neck as the binding on the guitar. Maybe with good reason. idunno Clinton

If it looks good to you, then go for it. idunno

Sorry if I sound like I'm trying to be a wise guy, but I really think you should decide for yourself. There are enough guitars out there with all sorts of trim combinations if you want to get an idea how it would look. Personally I'm not crazy about bloodwood in the first place, besides I usually try to keep the wood color palette quite sparse so my advice would be to tone it down and use similar binding as the body, but that's just me.

I bind necks in ebony all the time, and use them over bodies bound in whatever. But, on the two pomele sapele guitars I did bound in bloodwood, ebony/ebonyFB looked awful - I actually had the one neck glued up and all ready to go then was about to set it and took one look and started over ... more bloodwood was all that looked right to my eye, and the FBs were bois'd'rose and EIR.

IMO- I would use the curley maple binding for the FB too. Of course if the bloodwood looks good to you, go with it Clinton.
Can you post a picture of the guitar for us ?
