What about the standard tortoise shell, ivroid, or black fiber?

That's pretty cool, btw. The other day I started procuring wood for a strat that I'd like to build this summer. I'm using a cedar body with 1/8" rosewood on the top and back per Rick's tip last fall. With Lollar Blondes, the light weight should produce a very nice, vintage sound. FInished in Sonic Blue.

Chris...Right on Dude!!! Lots of folks emerging from the closet recently...nice to see.

Having recently tried to bend curly maple for a LP horn, I can tell you that any non-figured wood would be easier. Try the Bloodwood with SS2...try it thinner...let it break and make an invisible splice near the horn apex. All possibilities in getting your horns bound. Just don't chicken out and use ...plastic!

Keep us posted on your progress.

I really like the racing stripe. I would use tortoise (sorry JJ :) ) Or if you plan on doing a burst, ivroid. They're both classic looks on a classic guitar (albeit with a twist). Although, if you go with a 3 color burst with Fender colors, or with Rick's take on the 3 color burst, I do think the figured maple would look very nice. Whichever way you go, match or contrast the color in the center.
