Great question Todd! In his book, he says his preference is for Jim Dunlop #6130 (.044" crown height), but that it's purely a matter of personal choice. Real interested what others have to say!

When I was playing in the jazz band, my hand movement was more of a gliding motion with a light touch, sliding into and out of chords and notes from a fret above or below the final position, sometimes more. The lower, fatter frets help to smooth out the feel, which also helps smooth out the sound to a degree.

I do work for a bunch of the big jazz guys in NYC and it is a whole different thing regarding the fret wire.
Some of it is almost non-existent but they just play so effortlessly. Every now and then I have to do some partial
refrets on these and there is quite a bit of shaping and leveling to get them low and smooth enough.
Best, Evan
