I'm building an ABG and I'd like to use an Allied Lutherie truss rod as everyone seems to think they are great. The problem is that it's an ABG with a 34" scale length and 15 frets to the body. To make it worse I'm planning on a floating fingerboard extension like Rick Turner's Compass Rose guitars (hope you don't mind Rick) so there's no need for the truss-rod under the extension. In fact I don't want it under the extension. This means that the only option is the banjo truss-rod. The first of the two drawings below shows the neck with the banjo truss-rod. Will this be OK? the second drawing shows the bass-guitar truss-rod. Thanks in advance. Dave. Edit. If you click on the image you can see it better. |

I dont see any major issues with using the banjo rod .... basically what will happen is the point of max relief, where the rod pushes up the most, will have shifted down a bit towards the nut. |

Thanks Tony. I thought it was just about OK but it's nice to have the opinion of someone with much more experience than I. |

Although I don't have his experience, I agree with Tony. Your first drawing is how most archtop necks are made. |
