Anybody know of a simple s/w package where you can enter stock size and part sizes so that you can figure out how much stock you will need? Yes, I can do this by hand, but this would be more fun. Mike |

Found it. Its called a "cut list" problem. I think the parts have to be regular shapes (rectangular). I found a free one: http://www.delphiforfun.com/Programs/CutList.htm But there are commercial ones too. Now, I can enter part sizes and figure out how much wood to order! (yes, could do by hand, but thats no fun) Mike |

Ok, its not every day that luthiers are going to need to be economical with their wood parts. But the program I mentioned above has allowed me to figure out how to cut all the 3/4" plywood pieces for the Fox Bender, the Williams Binding Cutter (including the guitar holder), and the cutaway add-on for the Fox Bender from either one 4x8 or one 60"x60" (Baltic Birch)piece of plywood. Additionally, I found out that I could get the 60"x60" piece cut in half and still do the same. (Same for the 4x8). It also looks like there might be enough left over from the 4x8 to build Spanish Style Clamping system (iffin I were to use 3/4" for that). Amazing free tool and easy to use. I also built in a 1/4" blade cut (to make room for outside cuts). Amazing! Mike |
