If Ben Elder is suggesting it's an authentic then I'd be taking his word for it. Definitely one of the more different instruments I've seen, and though I don't profess to be an expert on the history of Weissenborns, it does seem to have a lot of the typical tell-tale signs of a Weissenborn.

At the Knutsen archives page dealing with the Knustsen Weissenborn connection they discuss Weissenborn's early work and talk about one like this one. It would seem to support this one being authentic. Being as thin bodied as it is I bet it has a high lonesome echo-ee voice.
